Board of Elders October 2005 COMING NOVEMBER 3rd TO A CLASS ROOM NEAR YOU! A new Bible study will begin on Thursday, November 3, 2005, 7 pm based upon Rick Warren's book, The Purpose-Driven Church: Growth without Compromising Your Message & Mission. The Elders have been studying this work recently. They have found it to be an excellent "idea starter" for improving ministry involvement. It is jammed packed with suggestions for improving congregational health, defining your congregational purpose, developing mission and ministry strategies, and so much more! The Purpose-Driven Church shifts congregational focus away from church building programs to emphasizing a people-building process. A five-part strategy is offered that will enable our congregation to grow warmer through fellowship, deeper through discipleship, stronger through worship, broader through ministry, and larger through evangelism. This study is simply a must for all church members, but especially to people hungry for God's Word and direction. If you are interested in evangelism, Christian education, youth and congregational leadership, you NEED to attend this vital class. Hopefully we will have great participation from our Elders who have completed this study in advance. They can offer us their incite and expertise! Copies of this book, The Purpose-Driven Church," can be found at For-All Bible, Great Expectations and Books-A-Million. Copies may even be found at some Wal-Marts. If you cannot afford to purchase the book, do not let that stop you from coming. Simply call Pastor (451-2464 or 389-1490) or Anne Dorriety (451-3807). We will get you a copy. That is just how important this study is! Mark your calendars and make every effort to attend! Congregational Bar-B-Q! A congregational wide "bar-b-q" is scheduled for Sunday, August 28 at noon! Where? The pavilion on our campus! Bring lawn chairs and/or blankets! If you have lawn games and can bring them, please do! The bar-b-q will be hosted by the Missions/Evangelism Board of First Lutheran Church! They will supply hamburgers, hotdogs, buns, and drinks. Congregational families are asked to provide salads and desserts. We are planning for this day to be a "Friendship Sunday!" In other words, bring a friend to church! Invite someone to attend both worship and the picnic! We want others to know about our church family and that being a Christian can be fun! A good time will be had by all! Money back guaranteed!
